Murat Ham was born in Braunschweig, Germany, and holds a master’s degree in political science with a focus in political communications and journalism research from the Freie Universität Berlin. His thesis work examined political journalism in the capital cities of Berlin and Washington. A trained journalist, Murat Ham possesses several years professional experience working as an editor at renowned print, online and broadcast media outlets, as well as having worked as an editorial director in corporate communications.
Already a recognized author after the publication of a short story with the publisher Droemer Knauer, Murat Ham made his public appearance as a book author in August 2009. Together with Erkan Arikan, he published the book “Jung, erfolgreich, türkisch: Ein etwas anderes Porträt der Migranten in Deutschland” (“Young, Successful, Turkish: A Somewhat Different Portrait of Migrants in Germany”) with the publishing group Lübbe. In his foreword, German Federal Minister Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble praised the book with the following words: “The stories that the authors Erkan Arikan and Murat Ham tell us in their book, Young, Successful, Turkish show how much progress has been made. At the same time, they bolster our courage to continue to engage ourselves and fight for solidarity in the midst of diversity.”
In October 2011 Murat Ham published with Prof. Angelika Kubanek another book “Fremde Heimat Deutschland – Leben zwischen Ankommen und Abschied” with the publishing house ibidem. In his foreword, Governing Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit praised the book.
